100 Books to Read In A Lifetime

Several weeks ago, I ran across an article about how the editors at Amazon compiled a list of 100 books everyone should read in their lifetime.  I LOVE lists, and I LOVE books, so this had my name written all over it! Here is a link to the list:

100 books everyone should read in their lifetime

I looked through all the titles, and I've read 32 of them.  32.  Yikes.  I must admit at first, I felt a bit like a failure...until I remembered that this list is opinion-based, and then I felt a little better.  In all seriousness, it's a pretty fascinating list.  It encompasses all genres, age levels, and interests, everything from Goodnight Moon to The Autobiography of Malcolm X.  My challenge to you is to see if you can read at least one of these books yet this trimester and then blog about your experience, including why you think it made the list.  I encourage you to select a grade-appropriate choice (Charlotte's Web, while a terrific read, may not be quite grade-appropriate), but even if you just revisit a classic you used to love, you would be fulfilling the challenge.

How many books have you read from the list?  What book(s) will you try to read this trimester?

  1. Whoa, so many books! This is such a great reference, and I didn’t even dare to count how many I've read because I would feel not too great. Though, I have heard about a lot of these books, and even have looks inside of them. I have read a few, and I’m proud to say that I have already completed your challenge, for I am reading "The Fault in Our Stars" which is the book for "A Soulful Young Adult Novel", which I totally understand. If you are curious then go take look at my blog! Thanks for sharing this list with the internet so more can find it.

  2. I love this list, too! Thank you for sharing this with us Mrs. Bross! I've only read 25 books but I'm determined to read many from this list during the remainder of the school year and during the best time to catch up on reading, summer! I recognize most of these books and love that it includes books for all ages and genres. My favorite books from this list are Gone Girl, 1984, and Are you there God? It's me, Margaret.

  3. I really like that list, it's a cool idea, I've read 16 books on that list cover to cover and looked inside or thought about reading quite a few more than 16. Now may be a good time to consider picking them up.

  4. I only have read eight of these books, I highly recommend "Are you there God? It's me, Margret". I have heard of many of the other books and plan to read them in the future. I would like to read "A Wrinkle in Time", "The Book Thief", "The Giver" this semester.
